UNCW Wakeboarding

For all of those out there who don’t already know, Kevin Henshaw is a really good wakeboarder. He is especially good on rails.

On March 13th at the East Coast Wake Park in Greenville, NC, he will be revealing a new creative rail he designed and they will be hitting it from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

SOOOOO FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARENT GOING OUT OF TOWN FOR SPRING BREAK, THIS COULD BE A GOOD OPPURTUNITY FOR YOU TO CHECK OUT SOME SICK WAKEBOARDING!!!!

I’m def gonna try to make it up there so let me know if you are interested.

Thank you to all of those who showed up to the meeting………NOT! so Maria Smithies was the only person to show up to our meeting Friday. I know im probably going to here 100 excuses of why people couldn’t make it but its whatever. I had a couple things to say about our boat situation and other things but I will plan another meeting sometime soon to get all of those who didn’t make it filled in on whats going on. Congratulations to Justin Barnes, Nick Joseph, Matt Hemric, Lucas Kochek, and Anna Petrea. They were the five people we chose to go with your club officers to nationals and compete for the national title. Come to the next meeting to find out more info.

There is a club meeting next Friday, February 19th at 5:00pm in the Bald Head Island room! Be there to get updates on this upcoming Spring and Summer. There will be a lot discussed and I will also let everyone know who has been chosen to go to nationals with us. Tyler and I have chosen the best 6 riders in wakeskate(1), womens(2), and men(3) who we thought is gonna represent UNCW the best and give us a shot at the national title!

Well I can see how all this cold weather has gotten those avid wakeboarders depressed but don’t worry things will begin to progress very soon! Your club officers are working to get fundraising and I am trying desperately to get a boat for our club. There will be a club meeting this month to explain what we want to do during the spring with your help. There will not be a snowboarding trip this year do to limited funds and lack of interest. Anna Petrea has been generous enough to volunteer her house on Lake Hyco (which stays between 70-75 degrees year round heated by a power plant) so we can start wakeboarding soon. That trip is in the making!

Dont forget that you can get 30% on buywake.com if you are a full member of the club. One of our club members just got over $100 off on a new pair of bindings so it is well worth it.

Well if you missed the meeting you didnt get to see the T-Shirt design but I’ll let you know a lil bit of what when on. Thank you to all our members who showed up!

We discussed snowboarding trips over the winter and who all was interested. Everyone seemed pretty interested so we will almost definetly being doing that. I will let you know when that time comes and more details.

We are gonna send some donation letters out for one of our fundraisers over the winter. If you want to get involved and help us raise some money over the winter all I need you to do is give me as many addresses of people who would possibly donate some money to our cause. (think about relatives, board shops near you house, boat dealers, etc). The more you get donated, the more likely you are to go on our trips. If you want to write you own letter you can do that or you can simply send us your addresses (dubwake@gmail.com) and we can take care of it. If you want more details on this show up to the next meeting!

T Shirts are on there way and they are awesome! This is another way you can help us raise money! Im gonna pass out 6 t shirts to all our members and I need you to sell 5 of them. Most likely $10-$15 a piece. This will result in your free shirt!

Okay now dont everyone start to cry at once, we are still planning trips over the winter. We are going to try and do a snowboarding trip sometime soon. It will most likely be the end of November, beginning of December. My boat has unfortunately has decided to not start anymore  so we are just gonna have to call it quits until March next year! I have to take it home for repairs.My boat has almost 600 hours on it so its kind of falling apart! Sorry for all of those who were pumped on getting out there in your wetsuits, this is one unfortunate aspect that separates us from other clubs.

We will have a Club Meeting next Tuesday, October 27th at 7 or 8pm(location TBD), for all of those who would be interested in a snowboarding trip over this winter. This meeting will have valuable information!!! Be there!

Although only three schools showed up for regionals (UNCW, Cape Fear, and NC State), we still managed to take first place. WE ARE GOING TO NATIONALS!!!

There will be a wakeboard meeting this Thursday at 8:00pm in the Cape Fear Room 2019. It is located in the FUU (where the hawks nest is) right behind the bathrooms. This will be a last chance for those who want to ride October 10th in the regional competition to get all of their stuff turned in. We will go over some of the rules and divisions of the tournament as well as let you know what riding looks like next week. Please be there if you still want to join up with the wakeboard club and need to get your things turned in. I will have waivers available at the meeting!
